It’s a Mad Mad Mad Mad (Men) World
Beauty tips to bring out your inner Joan, Peggy or Betty
AMC’s Mad Men returned to the airwaves Sunday and brought with it a new season of gorgeous ’60s style. To get the ladylike looks of the show’s protagonists, look no further than these tips from Beauty Brands’ Brand Education Supervisor Ashley Shadel.
> Get dewy skin with Too Faced’s Tinted Beauty Balm. It will create a luminous, flawless face while moisturizing and protecting with an SPF 20.
> Get a natural peachy glow with a cream blush. Just pat on and blend with fingers. We love Stila Convertible Color Cream Cheek and Lip Color
> Keep shadows matte and neutral. Just enough to even out your lids. Highlight under the brows with a lighter shade. Use a matte, neutral shade in the crease to contour.
> To get that perfect cat eye, line only the top lashes with eyeliner and angle the outer corners up and out. For those who love a liquid liner, try one with a thin, marker-like tip for easy application.
> If you are very fair or for a subtler daytime look, opt for a dark brown liner instead of black.
> Cat eyes can be tricky, so here are some tips to ensure the perfect look:
– Try applying liner using short strokes rather than drawing one continuous line.
– If your line is a bit uneven, blend by drawing over your line with a dark eye shadow.
> Don’t forget about your brows! A full brow will frame the face and give you that feminine ’60s look, so don’t overtweeze.
> Finish off the look with two coats of lengthening mascara on top lashes only.
> Try a red lip! If you’re brave enough to go all out, first line lips with a nude lip liner. Gone are the days when your liner should match your lipstick –– pick one out that matches your natural lip color.
> If you’re not ready for a bold red lip and would like a sheer look, try a lip stain. Smashbox Limitless Lip Stain & Color Seal Balm is the perfect choice. One side is a marker-tipped stain, the other is a tinted balm. The sheer color stays on for hours but doesn’t have a heavy lipstick feel or dry feeling of a stain alone.
> A nude lip is another hot trend for spring. It can be tricky to achieve, so a tip is to first mute the color of your natural lips with a concealer. Top with a nude lipstick and/or gloss. A great nude gloss is theBalm Plump My Pucker in Cocoa my Coconut –– it plumps lips and smells amazing!
> Volume is the name of the game. Spray a volumizer at the roots of towel-dried hair and blow dry with a round brush. If you’re in a rush, just blow dry upside down to get extra volume
> Have fun with curls –– try curing with a curling iron or wand.
> Run your fingers through the curls and add shine with a paste such as Kenra Clear Paste 20. You can also try a shine spray like Redken Shine Flash.
> Finish off with a volumizing hair spray.
> Go for a nude nail lacquer, which is hot for spring. We like Naked or Fashion from Deborah Lippmann. Or you can never go wrong with a classic red like Deborah Lippmann Lady is a Tramp.
> Don’t forget a quick-dry, super shiny top coat to finish off your manicure, such as one of our favorites –– Seche Vite fast dry top coat.
