Main Event Outpouring, Assist victims of crime at annual Legacy House benefit

By Lindsay Rosa

For victims of violence, the road to recovery after a traumatic experience can be daunting. Legacy House, a social service provider, offers an extensive network of guidance and hope for those damaged physically and emotionally.
Outpouring, the organization’s annual fundraiser, brings together members of the community for a night of crime awareness and entertainment. Join friends and supporters of Legacy House from 6-9 p.m. Aug. 21 for an evening of jazz near the banks of the White River at the Indianapolis Art Center. Sample fine wine and hors d’oeuvres or participate in a silent auction. All proceeds from the benefit will directly aid crime victims.
“It has been gratifying to see the dream for this organization become a reality,” says Denise Mudd, a founding member of Legacy House and its director of administration and finance. Mudd says she is fortunate to work with a group of women who truly are passionate about their work, which promotes healing through intervention, support and understanding. “It is a rare gift to wake up each morning and look forward to the work we do,” she says.
Since opening its doors in 2001, Legacy House services have assisted more than 11,000 adults and children through community education programs, counseling services, crisis intervention, mentoring programs, victim advocacy and safety planning. Legacy House provides services to the public free of charge.
By attending this year’s Outpouring event, the community will have the opportunity to generate awareness and put a stop to violence. Tickets are $50. Call (317) 554-5272 or log on www.legacy-house.org.
